He hadn't gotten up until the fighter was actually in view. Those last few
minutes, as all the time since Kes had left, dedicated to mulling over
various things the man had said over the past few weeks, this most recent
conversation first among them.
Don't let Poe die alone.
Finn didn't really wait for Poe to get his bearings on the grass,
practically sweeping him up for a kiss.
Poe was a very physically affectionate man - and was all too happy to let
Finn be affectionate with him - but he still wasn't quite expectly to be
nearly literally swept off his feet. He laughed against Finn's lips and
slid his arms around to loop loosely at his waist.
"I was only gone a quarter of an hour," he teased.
He shrugged as best he could with Poe still in his arms, possibly moving
the pilot himself a bit with the motion thanks to that grip. He kept close,
though, resting his chin on Poe's shoulder, partially to hide his
expression. He really didn't have a fast an easy excuse for the warmer than
normal welcome, and when it came to Finn talking on his feet...
The smile faded slightly, concern taking its place - he was expecting a
laugh, back, maybe some teasing - not a shrug and a mumble about how much
he'd been thinking.
He leaned back a little though didn't break away from Finn's arms - just
enough to be able to quickly look over his face.
Finn leaned in for another kiss, slow and thoughtful and only a tiny bit
buying time.
"Yeah....yeah."
Another kiss before he finished that eloquent little reply, then a hand
came up to try and push back the mess the helmet had made of Poe's hair.
The frown doesn't quite go away, but his expression softens, all fondness
for the man in front of him.
"Just time to wake back up. The galaxy's waiting."
Poe tilts his head, raising a hand to scrub a thumb through Finn's hair -
getting a little longer, now, though still tightly woven against his scalp.
"Getting used to vacation life, huh?" He teased quietly. "I admit that it's
going to be hard not being able to drag you into every corner on base
whenever I want, but you might get to spend less time trying to fit a leash
on me."
Now there was an image, one able to push Kes and his promises right out of
Finn's thoughts for at least a few seconds. His eyes flickered down to
Poe's neck, not all of the bruises visible but very easily pictured. There
may be a faint blush rising, he's pretty sure there is, but it could just
be having been out in the sun so long....no. It's there.
"Wouldn't count on that...you, uh." He had to clear his throat a little.
"You're still you."
He caught that. That was the look Finn got when Poe unknowingly said
something incredibly sexy, and he immediately re-winded his words to figure
out what had triggered the response -
Caught. Finn gave a small groan, but a fond smile stayed. As he very
strategically, slipped an arm around Poe's waist and started leading him
towards the compound so he wasn't looking directly at him as the thoughts
continued. Not leashes, so much, but just holding Poe still-
Poe's thoughts continued, too. Not that they had ever really ended. He'd
been planning their return since that afternoon on the temple steps - and
it only kept getting more and more elaborate. He really was bored, if he
was fantasizing this much.
He let Finn lead him on, sighing wistfully to himself.
"Not going to lie, Finn, I'm glad we're going back. Another week of this
and I think I would have eaten my own arm."
He gives Poe a sideways glance, still not fully done blushing. But he'll
probably never manage that last part, and he's gotten used to it.
It's a fight, when they get back in the compound, to not pull out chairs
and fall into the nursemaid pattern. Poe didn't need it now, he was close
enough to fine. Half a dozen aborted gestures later, Finn gives a small
shake of his head. He'd seen where Kes kept everything, and after sitting
outside for so long another round didn't seem like a bad idea.
"Sure," Poe said happily, giving his own glance around for his father, but
the man was no where to be seen. He smiled happily at Finn, though it
turned into a rueful grin.
"I probably owe you about three weeks of pampering. But I have some ideas."
Protocols were nice, even ones as simple as setting up and making tea. It
also gives him time to push thoughts down before replying to Poe's offer,
not really wanting to get into just how much he enjoyed looking
after Poe. Weakness was a mortal sin in the Order, but helping the weak far
worse of an offense. Never mind the added blasphemies of love and
affection. Just how much the entire past few weeks would have made Phasma's
head explode was enough to bring back an amused smile back to his face. But
being allowed to indulge in all of it at the same time....it was something
he was going to miss. A little. Not as much as he was relieved to have Poe
back to his normal self, of course. But there it was.
"Trust me, we're more than even. Didn't know places like this one existed."
"Trust me, it gets boring after a while," Poe teased. "But you just let me
know when you want to come and get bored to tears, and I'm sure we can get
a few days shore leave."
It was as close that Finn was going to get, to have Poe admit that he had
enjoyed it a bit here too. Had enjoyed it more than he thought he would.
Even if every atom in his body was now aching to get back into a cockpit,
living with Finn like this--
Yeah. It was nice.
"I was thinking - why don't you officially switch your bunk over to mine,
when we get back?" There was a heartbeat, until he added, "Obviously we can
get space for Rey, too, when she comes back--"
Finn's eyebrows went up as he served the tea, smiling turning a little
playful. Room for Rey. Because, clearly, she would have been staying in
Finn's room when she got back, what with the arranged marriage. But if he
were in Poe's room, that would have to be shifted around to-
And Poe's temple fantasies were never too far from mind, but this was..this
was like asking them to take center stage. With the teasing smile dying as
he had to swallow hard instead.
"Yeah. yeah we can do that. Shouldn't be wasting space."
He wanted to add on Rey was more than capable of sorting out her own living
arrangements, might even get some special Jedi wing. But he couldn't quite
form the words with all the images in his head.
"I just figured she'd rather bunk with us, if given the choice," He
continued, feeling a bit idiotic. Bunk with Finn. She barely even knew Poe,
but Poe was hoping beyond hope that Finn would want to stay with him
regardless.
"But - yeah. No point you having your own room if you're never going to be
there," He said, offering Finn a warm, lopsided smile.
Finn tilted his head back a little to better study Poe as he took a sip of
the tea. He'd made it way stronger than Kes did, he'd have to work on it.
Maybe ask the man to send some to the station. But he was letting the Rey
sleeping situation go, for his own sanity if nothing else.
Finn had always been more or less openly in the Resistance for Poe and Rey,
the opinions of everyone else entirely immaterial. Poe, on the other hand,
had a life there, one he'd built over time and with troops to lead. The
gossip mill was going to care far more about Finn going to Poe's
room than Finn himself.
"Sure you're ready to make...things, ah, official?"
He just smiled back for a long moment, no blushing or any hint of
embarrassment or guilt. Just contentment. There'd be whistles and comments
from the other pilots and his own troops, and that's fine. They'd be no
investigations, no demands from up top it stop or it would be taken care
of. If his old squadmates in the Order had any idea what the galaxy was
like, outside of that horrific mindset...
His chest - and his face, though he didn't know it - glowed. He hadn't
thought Finn would disagree - they'd spent the last few weeks in close
quarters - but there had always been a chance. Always been that slight edge
that hinted that things might not be the same, when they got back on base.
That all the words exchanged, though still felt, would stay here. Off duty.
So the smile widened into a grin, before he leaned around the table to
steal a kiss.
"Perfect." He murmured. "I was afraid I was going to have to pitch a tent
outside your door and wax on with terrible poetry."
Damn, the idea of holding out doing something he wanted for greater reward
hadn't come to mind. He'd have to put that piece of information away in the
future. Even if it was just building up good behavior from the pilot,
instead of over the top acts of...whatever that plan fell under.
He stole another kiss before leaning back into his own chair, still
grinning.
"Oh distant fateful star, whose light is all that guides, reflecting dimly
in his eyes--" He really wasn't a poet, and he couldn't keep a straight
face. "Something, something, you really should see him with his shirt off--"
Finn burst out laughing, head tipping back as Poe finished with his grand
shirt off line. Perfect man. Infuriating, stubborn, suicidal, and
perfect man.
"Alright, alright. Stop before I start thinking about this too hard and
realize how insane I really must be."
"What? Have you seen your chest, lately? Pure poetry," Poe said, still
grinning. He was sitting back, but he couldn't help the impulse to touch
him, so he reached out and slid a hand over Finn's wrist.
"And 'pretty insane' is probably the answer you're looking for. By the way."
Don't let him die alone. The smile doesn't falter, but he tugs
the hand Poe has on his wrist up to him to place a kiss on the back of his
hand. Very gentleman like, or so some of the terrible holovids involving
pilots winning the lady fair had taught him in the past couple months.
