"We should be," He said, frowning. It didn't really matter now, what with the seat of the Republic destroyed.
"But we aren't. There's a reason I'm here, not there. The Republic had a very strict policy of non interference with the First Order. We would get court martialed if we wandered into the no-fly zone, while the First Order raided and pillaged as much as they wanted to. Even when I found First Order spies in the heart of the Republic - didn't matter. The illusion of peace was better than fighting to keep it. Lucky for me, instead of getting dishonourably discharged and sent off on my ass, the General swooped in and picked me up, instead."

"Rescue from unexpected places? Sounds familiar."
He meant himself, though Poe would take it as he would. He pressed a kiss against his temple anyway, the pilot that somehow ended up turning his life around every few weeks.
"But dad not please, alright. You think he wants you back in the Republic, or grounded for good?"

"I think he wants me as far away from the war as I could possibly get," Poe said, his voice growing quiet as he frowned, though the kiss had helped a little. (More than a little. It had been a long time since he was comfortable enough to just sit around, like this.)
"He thinks that he's already sacrificed enough, for the cause. And doesn't think he should have to sacrifice his son, too." He gave a wry look and tilted his head back to look up at Finn, upside down.
"And I refuse to do anything less for the galaxy than they did."

So Finn was doomed from the start too. There's no answering smile for Poe, just a thoughtful look as Finn took advantage of the new position and traced the lines of his neck with one hand.
"Ah, Maybe we should take a week somewhere else first."
Wait until Poe looked slightly less like he'd been run over by a gang of podracers.

"It'll be fine. I won't hear the end of it, if he finds out I had so much downtime and didn't come visit."
He squirmed until he could lean up and kiss Finn's chin. "Besides. I'll have you to run distraction for me."

"I'm gonna get shot at again. I know it."
It was teasing, the press of Poe's lips against his chin brushing aside any other concerns. He was going to meet Poe's father.
He honestly had no idea how to do that.
