Maybe it's a bad way to make decisions- waiting until the other person he's arguing with sees his way, and then goes ahead and doesn't carry out his original plan. Maybe it could be seen as hypocritical, or childish. Regardless, having 'won' Poe's trust, Kay feels that he doesn't have anything else to prove. Maybe some day he will get said equipment. Maybe he'll even want to use it.
