He hadn't been joking about repairing the damn hanger. It gave him something to do for a few hours each day, anyway, other than defiling Poe's childhood room. In fact, it gave him more to do than he'd originally anticipated. He wasn't even sorting through piles of junk, if anyone was going to do that it was Poe who'd actually know what was real junk and what was junk with potential. The dusting and oiling and scrubbing and organizing, though. The years had left enough of that to make Poe flash back to his days of sanitation duty.

Keeping Poe relatively still while he was doing this added an extra layer of challenge. Speaking of, Finn stood, cracking his back from being bent over so long, and looked for the rogue pilot.

Poe was happily sorting through the 'junk', though he would never call it that. Very little of it ended up in a disposal pile - most of it got sorted into piles that he referred to fondly as 'unfinished projects' and ended up next to one of the half-finished vehicles.

At the moment, however, he was sitting inside the trash-heap of a speeder, reinstalling a new control panel. The movement of Finn standing brought his head up.

"Hey - pass me that T-60 Decelerator, will you?"

It was moments like these he was fairly sure the universe was having a running joke with him. Poe wasn't overly exerting himself, so he had no reason to complain about what he was doing. So there was no escaping the upcoming admission of total mechanical ignorance.

"...that the round thing?"

Poe laughed, leaning over to reach out of the cock pit so he could point.

"No - the cylindrical thing with the ridges on it and the wires sticking out the end," he teased. "Should have brought BB-8, instead."

"Wait until Rey gets back."

It was more a grumble than anything, but the scenarios were close enough it brought her to mind. But at least he could get the device without Bb-8 this time.

"She'd like it here."

As he handed off the...round thing he nodded at the speeder Poe was working on.

"And in there."

He wasn't expecting to hear her name. It had been so completely about them, for the last few days, that he hadn't even really thought about her - and the sudden mention brought him right out of whatever it was he'd been thinking about.

"-- yeah," He replied, trying to make a swift recovery.

He wasn't the only one who was Finn's. "BB-8 said she was - ah - quite a gear head."

It was hard to forget about Poe's arranged marriage he'd set up for Finn and Rey. So, dust and grease covered as he is (as they are), he leaned over to press a kiss to the side of his neck. But despite Poe's obvious fumbles, he wasn't just going to pretend he wasn't looking forward to her coming back, that she wasn't a part of his...family might be the wrong word. But life, world. A major part.

"Yeah. Thought she was gonna shoot me when I couldn't pick out the...thing. From the stuff."

He snorted softly.

"Gonna have to start learning someday."

"The thing from the stuff," he repeated, incredulously, but the kiss did its work and he relaxed.

It would probably be easier if he knew her beyond the legend, but as it was she was just a mythic figure that hung over Finn like a cloak.

However, it was a cloak that would keep him safe - a cloak that would still be there, when he wasn't. So the jealousy mellowed into almost a calm reassurance. Rey. Yeah.

"I can try to teach you, but I'm afraid even my knowledge is pretty specific to how to fly the things. But I'm sure we can scramble up something for you to impress her with, when she gets back."

"There was a lot of stuff. And we were about to die."

He can't help the slightly defensive edge that comes into his voice- he is an excellent soldier. Not a mechanic. There was no reason for Poe to have that tone. But it ends in a self-deprecating chuckle, along with another kiss pressed to his ear.

"We'll save it for another day. But I think I'll be happy to just watch you two go at it."

He knew what Finn meant - but years of living with pilots had his ears very very well attuned to double entendres. He chewed his lip to bite down the reply that came automatically - that had absolutely nothing to do with the three of them, and everything to do with raucous jokes that pilots couldn't help but make.

The idea, though, makes his insides squirm in weird ways.

"Uh huh," he said, leaning out a little farther to steal a kiss from his lips. "Should I be worried that she's just going to knock me flat?"

It's automatic now, his hand coming up to the back of Poe's neck, his finger tips barely brushing against the (rather regularly) renewed bruises along the side as he takes another kiss.

"Not sure the Force applies to ship repair. But who knows. She'll give you a good run, either way."

"I'm more worried that she's going to come at me with a giant stick," He murmured, though Finn's hand on the back of his neck was exactly - exactly - *where he wanted to be.

At least until he thought about Rey, and imagined matching bruises on her neck, and felt uncomfortable all over again.

"Between you and BB-8, I've developed a deep and genuine fear." He was joking.

"Now she's got the lightsaber."

It was a joke as well, the smile still there even as he pressed their lips together again. It wasn't going to turn into anything, not in the garage. Maybe someday, when Poe's whole...

But not today.

"But I'll protect you."

He'd already been rebuffed enough times in the garage to know that this was a No Fly Zone, so he didn't reach to pull at Finn's shirt, no matter how much he wanted to. Instead he just grinned into the kiss.

"I'm going to have to make a list, of how many times you've had to save my life," he teased. "You want to go for a ride? I think I'm up for the speeder, at least."

Finn made a considering noise, fingers lightly stroking Poe's neck. The speeder really wasn't as bad as a ship, and he'd be there to take over just in case. The hanger wasn't going anywhere, and he could use a break...

He nodded as he straightened up again- back popping once more. Yeah. Break.

"No stunt driving."

"You have my word," He promised instantly, almost immediately planning on breaking that promise, but then he saw the look on Finn's face.

"You alright?" He asked as he swung around to climb out of the wreck. The actual speeder was just outside. His hand went almost immediately to Finn's back as he joined him.

"Just having flashbacks to some of the old days."

He grinned at Poe, using the proximity to wrap an arm around his waist. It was a full ten feet to the speeder. Clearly he needed the support.

Clearly.

And Poe clearly had an argument to make against it, the way he leaned in against his hip as they walked. He couldn't quite get Rey out of his head - somehow able to stop thinking about her for so long that now that she reappeared she stubbornly refused to leave, so he barely even thought about it as he asked. "Have you heard from her, at all? Any idea when she's coming back?"

"Nothing. Which is a good thing. If the Order had caught her or Skywalker, it's all we'd be hearing about."

He worried. Of course he did, hours made of up of random minutes spent staring at ceilings or into space, thinking about the crazy desert girl. But it would be too great a risk to send communications with so many looking for her.

"She'll be fine."

He let go of Poe only to open the speeder door for him.

"She'll outlive all of us," Poe agreed ruefully, unsure if he was happy or worried, and unsure if it mattered. He climbed in the speeder with far more grace than he had at the beginning of the week - he was far from fully healed, but it didn't hurt to walk around anymore.

"Droids aren't known for sending letters, but BB-8 still sends me updates. He's flying with Nera."

Even if Poe is doing better, Finn still waits until he's clearly settled before going over into his side.

"Complaining he got left behind?"

"I think he considers us more his than you do," He said, offering him a warm smile, and referring to both himself and Rey. Finn wasn't the only one who brought her up, on the regular.

Once Finn was seated, Poe powered up the speeder, and took off at a good click into the trees, before breaking up above the canopy.

"I know exactly where we should go."

Finn smiled a little ruefully over at Poe, but didn't comment on the speeding right out of the gate. That was unavoidable with a the pilot, and certainly didn't look like he was any worse for wear. Poe was still an incredibly capable soldier himself, Finn trusted him.

"Ah, so making sure I'm taking care of you."

"I think the only reason you aren't being forced to give daily updates is because he's too busy. That, or he doesn't have access to your comm link."

Despite the speed, the weather was beautiful so the drive was easy - even if he did skim so low over the tree tops that Finn could probably lean out and touch them, if he wanted.

"You know there used to be a rebel base here, right?"

"Yeah."

Poe settled in, leaning against the side so he could focus on Poe as he spoke. The view was great, but he liked this one better. The man really needed to hurry up with the healing. He looked more natural is the pilot seat. His tone turned sarcastic as he remembered the version of the history he'd been told.

"And the battle that was Skywalker's first attempt at making the galaxy crumble into chaos."
